Mobility Parking Permits

What is the Mobility Parking Scheme?

The Mobility Parking Scheme is a programme of New Zealand CCS Inc, introduced with the cooperation of the Ministry of Transport, your local authority and the New Zealand Medical Association. Mobility Parking is a scheme recognised by all City and District Councils and many private companies and businesses.

Permit holders are entitled to use:

  • Accessible car parks (outlined in yellow and displaying the wheelchair symbol).
  • Standard car parks and metered spaces for longer than stated times, and
  • Time restricted zones e.g. P30 for longer than stated times.

There are 3 types of cards:

  • Short-term (any period up to 12 months) - $30.00
  • Long-term (5 years) - $45.00
  • Corporate - $100 per card (phone your local branch for more details and an application form)

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible the applicant must;

  • Be unable to walk and rely on a wheelchair for mobility, or
  • Rely on mobility devices (e.g. crutches, walking sticks, splints or walking frames), or
  • Be unable to walk 200 metres unassisted because of the nature/severity of their condition.

The key word is MOBILITY.

Conditions of Membership

  • Membership is not transferable.
  • The permit must be displayed clearly on the inside of the front windscreen or the dashboard only when the Permit holder is in the vehicle.

The Application Process

  • The applicant must get an application form. These are available from your local CCS branch, some Council offices and some local Doctors Surgeries.
  • The applicant needs to fill in Part A of the form, and sign and date Part C. If the applicant is unable to fill in the form then someone else can fill it in on their behalf.
  • The applicant must get Part B filled in by a Doctor.
  • The completed form then needs to be returned to your local CCS Branch with the payment enclosed (see above for amounts).
  • In the Bay of Plenty they are all processed centrally at the Regional Office in Tauranga. Applicants can call into the office.
